Ladies and gentlemen,
INSTED is very proud to reveal the participants in the INSTED debate during the ITs Festival 2010! (drum roll...)
The participants in the Young Theatremakers Debate are:
Lucas de Man, Thibaud Delpeut, Laura van Dolron, Sarah Moeremans, Leen Braspenning and Ira Judkovskaja!
More information on these directors can be found below. The debate will be hosted by Maren Bjorseth, Karlijn Kistemaker and Tatiana Pratley. All three are currently students at the Directing Department in Amsterdam, and together form the artistic head of INSTED.
Lucas de Man (1982) graduated from the Directing Department of the Theatre School of Amsterdam in 2008 after graduating as Master in Literature and Language at the KUL (Belgium) in 2004. He directed performances in Holland and Belgium such as TOMtom, McBeth, Naakt, Bro’s, NV Harde Materialen and Cassius for which he received the TAZ price in 2007. In 2006 he founded the international organisation for young directors called INSTED. After his graduation Lucas founded the company Stichting Nieuwe Helden (New Heroes) in collaboration with Bas Van Rijnsoever and Wouter Goedheer. His work is characterized by a quest for projects that embody the power of ‘not knowing’, the force of ‘mortality’. His most recent projects are De Club (based on Fight Club) and Bejaarden en Begeerte.
Thibaud Delpeut (1978) graduated from the Directing Department of the Theatre School of Amsterdam in 2006. Since 2007 he is part of the TA-2 project of Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Within this project for young directors he directed Racine\\\'s Britannicus (2007) and Antigone-Kreon-Oidipous based on the text of Sofokles (2009). Thibaud is also regularly working as the directing assistent of Ivo van Hove. Next to his work with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Thibaud is connected to the Toneelschuur Producties in Haarlem, where he shows his own work which often deals with current social or political events. His most recent work is Blasted by Sarah Kane and the self-written play Nacht. Besides his creative work Thibaud is a lecturer at the Theatre School of Amsterdam.
Laura van Dolron (1976) studied at the Theatre Academy of Maastricht, where she graduated in 2001. After three performances with her own Flemish company Het Zesde Bedrijf, she wrote, played and directed for several Dutch workshops and summer festivals, and large and small theater groups. Since 2006 Laura is working with Frascati Productions, Het Noord Nederlands Toneel and Het Nationale Toneel. One of her most recent works are Als gekken (2009) and Het voordeel van de twijfel (expected 2010) with Frascati and Iemand moet het doen (2010) with Het Nationale Toneel. She developed a form of theatre which she calls ‘stand up philosophy’: a type of light-hearted performance in which the great minds and thinkers are challenged and big philosophical questions are not avoided.
Leen Braspenning (1980) is a Flemish visual artist and theatermaker. Before she started studying Dramatic Arts in Tilburg in 2003, she graduated as a sculptor at the Sint-Luca Academy in Gent. After graduating in Dramatic Arts in 2007, she won several awards under which the BNG Nieuwe Theatermakerprijs for her production Discopigs in 2009. With the profit of this award and in cooperation with the Productiehuis Brabant, Leen is making a new production for the Blind Date Tour of the Theaterinstituut Nederland called Embrasse (opening at the Over het IJ Festival June 2010). For Embrasse Leen interviewed prostitutes and female factory workers, to find answers in her quest for what it means to be a woman.
Sarah Moeremans (1979) graduated in 2005 at the Directing Department of the Theatre School of Amsterdam. In the same year she won the Ton Lutz Prize for new directing talent. Since then she worked with several companies and production houses. Last season she made amongst others Alle eikels worden bomen maar sommige blijven eikel with d\\\'Amor, Afzender onbekend with NTGent and Spelen Met Vuur by Strindberg with Generale Oost. Besides that she was acting in Sawm by Sabri Saad El Hamus. Her most recent work, in cooperation with the Productiehuis Rotterdam, is Alleen in je wereld. She is currently working on a new production for this company (opening in 2011), There are people dying..., about blame, guilt and penance between generations.
Ira Judkovskaja (1975, Moskou) studied at the Directing Department of the Theatre School of Amsterdam where she graduated in 1999. In 2000 she started a cooperation with the Toneelschuur in Haarlem. She also did projects with Huis aan de Amstel, De Rit, Het Toneel Speelt and Orkater. In 2006 she founded her own company called De Groene Envelop and in 2007 she became the new artistic director of the Frisian theatre company Tryater. Ira\\\'s most recent work is a theatre performance on location with the title Master en Magarita which can be seen on the theaterfestival Oerol in June 2010.
